Social Networking – Why 19-30 year olds are using the Internet

It’s hard to believe, given the majority of users on the Internet today that the World Wide Web started out as purely a way for people to discover data pertaining to research matters. While this is still a major part of why people use the Internet in the New Millennium (although it is certainly “Buyer Beware” when it comes to the veracity of facts!) today’s Internet is being used for a much broader spectrum ideas. One only needs to look at some of the most popular websites out there to see that one of the main reasons people log on to the Internet is for what has been termed “social networking”. Boiled down, what this term means is that a website attracts and caters to people who want to keep in touch with others, and maybe meet new people as well.It is for these reasons that people in the19-30 age group log onto the Internet every day. In fact, thanks to sites such as Facebook and MySpace, more people in this demographic are using the Internet every day than ever before. The specific reasons why depend on the age group involved. For example, lower ages in that category might wish to stay in touch with their high school friends. The relative newness of social networking means that these ages have a better chance of remaining in touch with friends from their teenage years than has ever been possible before. For older members of the age group, social networking is a great chance to get reacquainted with old friends from university and even high school, if they can remember people from high school anyway. The most successful social networking sites include components which allow users to expand their existing networks as well as maintain old ones. They do so by accommodating groups of similarly minded individuals, or those most likely to connect with each other based on similar interests. Discussion groups and picture posting abilities are often central to this idea, and people in the 19-30 year old age group tend to be very distrustful of those unwilling to disclose information.Social networking is without doubt the fastest growing Internet niche out there today. People of all age groups have a strong desire to maintain a sense of community, and social networking on the World Wide Web has facilitated this as never before.

The Secret Weapon in Goal Achievement: The Why!

Did you ever wonder why so many fail at reaching their goals? The answer is simple, they couldn’t tap in to the most powerful weapon they have in their arsenal: The Why. When beginning your journey towards making change in your life and setting goals, you must not only have a clear direction and plan you must have a burning desire to make change happen. In order to accomplish this you must be able to tap into the core of your burning desire and know why you want to make change.Although it seems a simple task, the truth is most never reach down into their core to fully appreciate why they want to make change. For it to be truly effective, you must continue to ask yourself why you want to make a change in your life until you cannot answer the question anymore. You must be able to tap into what is most important to you to the furthest point possible without exception; it is only at this point, that you will have a burning desire to achieve all that you want in life. The why will be what motivates you along your journey and will keep you focused along the way. It will be the strength you will need to overcome obstacles and the courage to overcome fear. It will be your reminder when you are faced with choices and the reward at the end of your journey. These deep reasons that you want to implement change must also be personal and yield benefits to you personally. You must want to change to achieve something for yourself, not for others. For example, if you are looking to lose weight because you feel your partner would love you more or if you want to learn a new skill because it will make your boss happy are examples of not really reaching your core and making the desire personal enough to have true meaning to you. You must dig deep and find the real reasons you want change in your life and how it will impact you. Goal setting must follow the three P method to have true meaning: Must be Personal, Must be Positive and Must be in Present Tense. If you goals are not personal enough to propel you further, you will not be motivated to take the steps necessary to reach your goals. The Why is a powerful goal achievement tool that isn’t used by many, only the super successful. When used properly, success is guaranteed to come. It is the single source of power that will drive your performance the entire way along your journey and therefore the secret weapon of goal achievement.©Kellie D’Andrea & Associates

Must See Destination in Cancun

If you are thinking of travelling to Mexico, you must visit Cancun. It is a destination that is favoured by many. Why, it is a place that is the favourite vacation destination of countless people from all over the world.Cancun offers more than any other vacation spot in the world. It may not have the cultural and historical signs of the Mexican people but it is close the many places where the culture lovers would love to go. More over it is beautiful. Cancun, which is often called the Mexican Caribbean is a scenic city located on the Yucatan Channel.Cancun offers more to see and do than any other place in Mexico. Created specially as a leisure spot, this place has all that a vacationer and traveller can desire. If you want to surf, sail, or even lie down and lie down in the sun on a beach, you must come to Cancun.Of course Cancun offers much more than that!Chitchen Itza, Mexico is a fascinating archaeological site which is just half a day away from Cancun, Mexico. You can visit the place, explore the ruins, and climb the structures which are called “Mexican Pyramids” in local parlance. You can even enter the pyramids, and see the sculptures. There is so much history to see. You can even stand where the human sacrifices took place. The interesting facts are given by the guides who inform you about the death games. Ancient basketball matches apparently took place where the stakes were very high. The losing team was put to death! There are sound and light shows in the nights where even the enactment of ritual sacrifices is staged for the tourists.Xel Ha Nature Park is also very close to Cancun. This is a naturally insulated cove with a high sea bed, where you can safely snorkel with hundreds of colourful fish among the coral reef. It is a safe and secluded place and offers a fascinating and memorable experience.Sleeping Sharks a rare sight that can be seen here in Cancun ! There is an underwater cave just outside Cancun that the locals call the “cave of the sleeping sharks”. Sharks are genetically designed to keep moving even when they are asleep because movement is required to keep the water going through their lungs for them to breathe. This cave has some naturally formed sedative inside it, and sharks travelling through the cave lose consciousness. It is an enthralling sight to see such dangerous and magnificent fish totally immobile at such close quarters. Nowhere else in the world can you see this, but at Cancun!Come and see the Pink Sand, yes the sand of Cancun is pink in colour, and does not burn the feet since it reflects the sun. The roads are unique, built in loop lanes. There is no traffic jam and there are no traffic lights. The water is lovely, azure blue in colour. The people are friendly, approachable and helpful. Mexico is a wonderful place and Cancun is its star attraction.Author: Aniruddha Badolap class=”articletext”

Black mold may cause Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and miscarriage.

There is now a lot of evidence to connect black mold with Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) and miscarriage. The death of an infant can be devastating for a family so can losing a baby due to miscarriage. It is vital that any steps needed to prevent these awful events should be taken.

It is not just the fact that black mold is toxic that means that it is dangerous to infants. One way that it is believed to work is that black mold spores end up in baby’s mattress and they releases harmful chemicals from the mattress into the air and the baby breathes this lethal gas. This process is believed to be responsible for many cases of SIDS.

Black mold has also been associated with miscarriage. It seems that exposure to mold toxin could be the cause of many women losing their baby during pregnancy. Not all mold is toxic, but it is almost impossible to tell this by just looking. The usual way to determine toxicity is by sending the mold to be tested in a laboratory. This is why it is probably a good idea that pregnant women treat all mold as if it were toxic and keeping well away from it.

The best way to stop black mold from becoming an issue for infants and those who are pregnant is to prevent it occurring in your home, and if you do have it to quickly eliminate the problem. This can be a difficult issue for those who are living in rented accommodation and have a landlord who just won’t do anything about your mold problem. The advice here is to find somewhere else to stay either permanently or until the problem is fixed.

The real danger comes when black mold is growing and you are not even aware of it. Mold likes damp places that are poorly ventilated so make sure you check your attic and basement and any other cubby holes. Of course, if you are pregnant you will want someone else to conduct this search for you. In most instances eradicating the mold will be fairly straight forward so long as you discover it all. Pregnant women should not be involved in any part of the cleaning up process, but be kept well away from the area in case toxic spores are released into the air. When the mold is completely removed you will then need to take measures to make sure it doesn’t back again.

Biltmore Who’s Who Scam or no scam?

Biltmore Who’s who is not a scam. Harmonize to many members who sing the praises of what this social networking and registry entity did to help them strengthen their business and personal brand reputation online. In fact, not only is Biltmore Who’s Who Inc., Biltmore Whos who is not a scam to these folks, but quite a few consider their membership a vital tool to help them compete for business and job success in today’s world. The investment manager Gallego received the news in October, 2007 that he qualified for inclusion in the Biltmore Who’s Who Inc., Biltmore Who’s who Registry, he didn’t know much about the honor, but felt it could add some good publicity. Evidently the Biltmore Who’s Who Registry Committee felt that, as a Hispanic business leader, I would be a strong representative for my local community and a good fit with their other published candidates. Alex sees that initial invitation as one of his most successful business strategies to date. There’s no getting around it, meet a potential client or employer and what’s the first thing they do afterwards? They Google your name online. We are all living in a digital world. If you really want to be taken seriously, you must have a presence online. That’s what Biltmore did for me.“For me, the Biltmore association has been fantastic: it’s worked so well for us. Their people are completely professional. They know exactly what they’re doing. Their promotional engine keeps pushing me higher in the online rankings – now I feel totally confident telling clients to Google me –thanks to Biltmore Whos Who.”But if Biltmore Who’s Who Inc. Biltmore Who’s who is not a scam, what about those who claim they joined and didn’t get customers or jobs from it? According to Alex, those arguments don’t hold water. “Frankly if you’re looking for Biltmore to be your miracle worker, you’re being unrealistic. Biltmore is one part – an extremely important part – but still one part of your overall plan. Biltmore didn’t legitimize who I was as a businessperson: I did that myself. What they did was get my name out there in high-profile ways which further boosted my credibility. But I still had to do my part.”When people learn about the steps we take to catch any mistakes and the genuine PR services we provide our members, they quickly see that Biltmore Who’s Who Inc. Biltmore Who’s Who is not a scam. We really do work hard to help members network more effectively, build online reputations and learn how to compete in the digital age.The Biltmore Who’s Who roster includes thousands of members, and while no entity can ever claim to please every potential client, many members rave at Biltmorewhoswho.com about the positive benefits they enjoy.p class=”articletext”

How To Repair A Leaded Glass Panel

A client called and asked us to repair a window in their home. The window had a broken piece of glass and we would need to take it from their home, repair it at our shop and reinstall it in their entryway. To see the photos that go with this article go to the Better Stained Glass website and click on How To Repair A Leaded Glass Panel. The window frame had been assembled with 45 degree miters in the wood, which required that the nails be removed in order to get the wood out. Fortunately, the nails used were very thin pin nails, similar to a staple in size, so I was able to break the fasteners with a sharp rap on a putty knife at each nail.Once all the pin nails were cut, I was able to carefully remove the wood from the frame work. The leaded panel was very tight in the framework, which is rare, and I had to gently work the panel loose so as not to break it. This installation had one piece of tempered glass on the outside of the door frame and then the art glass. In our studio we insulate window units so that there is tempered glass on each side of the art glass.Because the tempered glass was still in place, I simply replaced the wood pieces back in the frame till the reinstall took place. Normally we put a piece of cardboard or plastic in the opening while it awaits replacement. When I got the panel back to our studio, I first traced the outline of the panel. I knew that since this window was so tight, I had to be absolutely sure that it didn’t grow on me in the repair process.I heated the joints of solder and, using pliers, rocked the outer bar back and forth until the outside strip of zinc came loose from the panel. Using a razor blade knife, I loosened the cement joint between the lead and the glass so that I could remove the glass pieces. Once the cement was loose from the glass, I was able to de-solder the joints and work the lead free from the glass.Next, I applied clear tape to both of the broken sides of the glass so that as I eased it out of the panel, it would stay in one piece which I could use as a pattern for the new replacement glass.Once I had the cement and glass loose from each other, I applied gentle pressure on the glass and spread it apart so it was easy to remove from the panel.I used the removed piece of glass as a template to cut my replacement pieces. Since the glass was a close match, but not quite perfect, I replaced both of the pieces so that they both looked the same. Your eye would notice the difference if only one of the pieces was replaced, but couldn’t see the small difference since both were replaced.Next, I nailed down the panel on the pattern I traced earlier, so I could make sure the window stayed the right size. Then I slid both of the replacement pieces of glass into the lead came.I tapped them into place tightly using gentle pressure from a glass hammer. Then I nailed the outside lead, in place making sure that the glass was tight and inside the lines of the pattern. Up until this step, the techniques I’ve used are those that both a copper foil artist and a lead artist would use. From this point on, I’ll be focusing on copper foil methods. I placed a strip of copper foil along the bottom of the panel, so there would be something to solder to. We might have used lead came but the came we had in stock didn’t match the original lead. I foiled the bottom three beveled pieces with copper foil, getting ready for soldering the panel.I cut a piece of zinc to fit the panel and nailed it in place, making sure that the panel still fits inside the penciled in pattern. I carefully soldered the joints at the bottom of the panel, using care to only heat the lead that is being attached just enough to solder to, trying to avoid melting the came. When the solder lines were complete, they were a little too shiny to match the original window, so I cleaned it with an ammonia based cleaner which darkened it and then added a dilute black patina to knock the color down. After polishing and waxing the window, it matched the original pretty well. When we went back to the home for the install, Jeanne wiped the window down for a final cleaning to get rid of any dust and smudges. I removed the molding that was in temporarily and a couple of nails from the frame work. Then I followed Jeanne’s example and polished the inside of the tempered glass to get rid of any dust that might have collected. I used my putty knife as a lever to center the window in the opening. Then I applied a small bead of silicone caulk around the entire framework.I gently tapped the wood back in place. Then, since I wasn’t going to nail the trim back in place, I forced a stick in the opening between the molding so that they’d be held tightly while the silicon dried. The silicon will form a good enough bond to hold both the window and the molding in place.p class=”articletext”

Which Retirement Plans Will Fit Your Goals?

It used to be many years ago that retirement plans meant getting the pension your company gave you along with your social security payments from the government and any savings you have on your own, and living comfortably in a downsized apartment throughout your golden years. For some this type of financial plan is sufficient for their needs; they may have a well-funded pension from a corporation that will provide well for them. But for most, you will need to make your own retirement plans when it comes to your financial health in order keep yourself afloat financially, and to make those dreams you’ve had for retirement a reality. It’s of course easy to get overwhelmed with the many options that are available to you when it comes to financial retirement plans, and you should speak to a financial advisor or counselor when making these decisions if you still have questions, but we can give you some general information that will explain some of the details a bit more clearly.BRBRDefined Benefit Retirement PlansBRBRDefined benefit retirement plans as provided by employers guarantee a certain payout upon your retirement, which depends on the retiree’s previous salary and the number of years he or she has been contributing to this plan. These may be referred to as funded meaning that there are contributions from one’s employer and sometimes from the plan members. In unfunded retirement plans, there are no funds set aside but the benefits are paid out of current taxes and social security contributions.BRBR401(k) Retirement PlansBRBRA 401(k) allows a person to save for retirement while deferring the taxes to be paid on the funds in the plan until they are actually paid out. Some are what are called participant directed, meaning the worker may decide on the investment options for the funds that are set aside to fund the 401(k). They may opt for stocks, bonds, money market accounts, or a mix of all of these. Most of these retirement plans also allow an employee to purchase a portion of company stock as part of this investment portfolio. These are the most common types of 401(k) plans; in trustee directed plans, which are much more unusual, the employer would appoint a trustee to oversee all the investment decisions of that plan.BRBRRoth IRA Retirement PlansBRBROne of the main characteristics of a Roth IRA is that the money put into this retirement fund has already been taxed as income; therefore, when the money becomes available to the retiree he or she does not pay taxes on it at that time. In contrast to a traditional IRA, contributions to a Roth IRA are not tax-deductible. This may not be advantageous to some who are in a higher tax bracket and expect the contributions to their retirement plans to help with the tax bill. At any time, the Roth IRA owner may withdraw up to the total of their contributions without tax or penalty. There are income limits for those who want to contribute to a Roth IRA.BRBRTraditional IRA Retirement PlansBRBRIn a traditional IRA, the account is held at a bank or brokerage house, and may be invested how the custodian for the plan allows. There are no income provisions for a traditional IRA, but there are more restrictions when it comes to early withdrawal. Since the dollars funding the IRA have not yet been taxed, they are subject to federal taxes upon withdrawal.BRBRThe main advantage to traditional IRA retirement plans is that their contributions are tax deductible. This has definite advantages for someone during the year of the contributions. However, a Roth IRA typically offers more shelter on one’s assets than a traditional IRA.BRBRChoosing Between the Retirement PlansBRBRNo one can tell you what the best choice is for you; even your financial advisor can only give you all the relevant information on how the different retirement plans affect your money and its potential growth. It’s up to you to decide which option you’re more comfortable with. Some people want to make their own decisions about where their money is invested and some would rather leave the decisions to others; some would prefer to pay the taxes on their contributions now while others would prefer to wait until the funds are disbursed. You need to educate yourself thoroughly and then make the decision that works best for you.

Syndicate Conference: Media RSS and Podcasting

By Nathan Weinberg 0 Yes, that’s right, I’m at the syndicate conference at the Marriot Marquis in Manhattan. Why didn’t I say anything till right now? Because I had no idea I was coming. Its just one of those great moments where the sun shines through, the hole opens in your schedule, the press liason calls you with your credentials, and there you are. So, on to my first session recap:Beyond Words: Media RSS & PodcastingModerator:Chad Dickerson, CTO, InfoWorld.Speakers:David Berlind, Executive Editor, ZDNet.Michael Dunn, VP, Hearst Interactive Media.David Payne, SVP, CNN News Services; CNN.com General Manager, CNN.com.Bradley Horowitz, Director of Multimedia and Desktop Search, Yahoo! Search.I missed the first ten minutes, so I apologize if I missed anything major.Bradley Horowitz from Yahoo says it is looking, with Media RSS and its media search engines, to keep the entire revenue model intact, that it is not looking to ruin those businesses, but to bring them more traffic.David Payne from CNN was asked how he felt about the fact that most people saw Joh Stewart on Crossfire online, commercial-free. He said that on the one hand, you see the complete destruction of the business model through disaggregation from the network. On the other hand, you see this technology as enablers, and you want the technology to work with the content publishers, making it a great opportunity, and not a major legal issue. If these technologies do not work with the publishers, there will just be lawsuits and lost opportunities.David Berlind from ZDNet mentions KYOU in San Fran, saying that they should use Creative Commons to free themselves from legal issues.Bradley made a good joke when talking about the rules differing between bloggers and regular journalists. He said that he was having lunch with a reporter, and offered to pay the bill, and the reporter said, “No, I’ll get fired if you do that”. He finished: “That hasn’t exactly been my experience with the blogosphere”, to a nice amount of laughs.Berlind mentions that there are big questions regarding to equipment and sound quality in podcasts. He also notes that they don’t have to worry about background music, because they have the right to use all the music from music.download.com throughout the C|Net network.Bradley talks about the opportunities to use podcasting for more than just some sort of radio program, but as a way to distribute conversations. His example: After a meeting, hitting something to just post the audio as a podcast somewhere for people who missed the meeting. The idea of just putting up the last hour of your life could be very appealing. One person asks about Podscope, where you do keyword searches of podcasts which index the speech of the podcast and even gives you an audio excerpt of the portion of the podcast where those words were spoken.Berlind mentions that we are running into problems with all of the differing formats, but Microsoft is far ahead of everyone else in creating a format that works on more hardware and in more places than any of their competitors.
