RACQ blasts Qld transit lane policing

The RACQ has joined the chorus of disapproval in criticising the Queensland government’s decision to use transport inspectors to police transit lanes.

RACQ’s general manager for external relations Gary Fites says the state government’s “thin grey line” of transport inspectors is already struggling to conduct sufficient roadside roadworthiness checks.

He says enforcing minimum vehicle occupancy numbers in transit lanes would compromise making sure cars and trucks are roadworthy.

“It’s important that there’s a ‘anywhere at any time’ perception among motorists regarding random roadworthiness checks,” Mr Fites said.

“But there’ll be even less chance of increasing that perception if transport inspectors have to become transit lane police as well.

“Such enforcement should be left to police officers.”

Police and the Transport Workers Union have already said the state government is putting lives at risk by making transport inspectors pull over drivers in bus and transit lanes.

Queensland Police Union president Ian Leavers said the decision could cost lives as inspectors would be pulled away from dealing with truck drivers on highways.

State Transport Workers Union secretary Hughie Williams said the decision was a grab for cash.

Under a six-month trial in 2010, Queensland Transport’s officers will hand out $100 on-the-spot fines to motorists driving illegally in bus and transit lanes.

Secured vs Unsecured Loans

Let’s face it: at some point in your life you will probably have to borrow some money. Whether to finance a new car purchase, pay for your kid’s braces, or buy a new home there are times when you will need to get money from an outside source. If a friend or a family member agrees to lend you the money, then that is good for you. However, most loans are with financial institutions such as a commercial bank, a credit union, or with a mortgage company. Not all loans are the same, but all loans fall into one of two categories: they are either secured or unsecured loans. Keep reading and we’ll compare and contrast these two loan categories.

A secured loan is a loan that is backed by collateral. This means that in exchange for a loan, the lending institution will put a lien on something else that you own. For example, if you want to borrow $5000 for a used car, the lender may require that you put your $6000 stamp collection up as collateral. No, you won’t have to turn the stamp collection over to the lender until the loan is paid off, but you will be expected to turn it over should you default on your payments. A secured loan is considered to be a less risky loan and loan rates are historically much lower than an unsecured loan.

An unsecured loan is a loan that has no collateral to go with it. Essentially, the lender is taking a risk that you will pay back in “good faith” your loan and he is going out on a limb to lend money to you. It could be that your lender sees your excellent credit rating and believes that you are a low risk borrower. Even if you have bad credit, a lender might still be interested in allowing you to borrow money. In this case your interest rate will be very high, perhaps 20% or more depending on your state or province’s restrictions.

Secured loans are usually include mortgages where the home is the security or for a new car where the automobile is the security there. Unsecured loans typically involve most credit cards and some personal loans. Student loans are unsecured loans as well.

Naturally, if you want to save on interest then a secured loan is the way to go. However, if you don’t have the collateral and there is a lender willing to give you the money, then an unsecured loan could be of value to you. Just remember that the highest loan interest rates are always with an unsecured loan.

How to Use Hot and Cold to Quickly Relieve your Hip Osteoarthritis

If you have hip osteoarthritis you will have to use various different therapies to control your symptoms. I am sure you have all heard of using hot or cold on an arthritic joint and on injuries but this is an area where I have found much confusion in patients. Actually it is a really simple and effective relief from your hip osteoarthritis.

This article will explain when to use cold and when to use heat, suggest what you can use as hot or cold packs and tell you how long you should leave the pack on for hip osteoarthritis. So let me start with cold.

COLD THERAPY.

When to use cold therapy.
When you start to get pain from your hip osteoarthritis during an activity it is often the muscles, tendons and ligaments (soft tissue that is giving you pain as they is can only function comfortably for a limited time. (If you want more information about the effects then go to my website and sign up for About OA).

Basically cold reduces inflammation of soft tissue but without the side effects of anti inflammatory drugs! That is why you should always use it on a new injury and not heat. Inflammation produces heat and heat produces inflammation so if you use heat when you should have used cold then the inflammation can increase if you are not careful an hour later you will feel worse.

At this point may I say that if you get pain in your hip joint as soon as you weight bear on it or all and every time you move it then go and see a health care professional as replacement may be your only course of action or you may not have OA but a different problem. Only very severe hip osteoarthritis will give pain immediately, even with moderately severe you will be able to do a small amount of activity with not much pain.

What to use as cold pack
By all means go and buy a ‘proper’ ice pack if you wish but if you do make sure it is large enough to go from your groin around the side of your pelvis and onto your buttock. Also make sure it is flexible enough to wrap around the joint and fit into the contours of the body.

Personally I have always found frozen peas work just fine (I don’t recommend eating them after though!). The reason I say peas is because they are small so fit around you better than say broccoli. Also they are cheap and easily replaceable when the bags eventually split. For example either buy 3 small bags, one for your groin, one for the side and one for your buttock or 2 large ones. Whatever you think will be best for your size and shape.

How to use a cold pack.
When icing NEVER place the cold pack next to your skin as you will get an ice burn. Wrap it in a tea towel or place it over your clothes but not something that is too thick as you do want to feel the cold.

How long to leave a cold pack on for.
Wrap as much of the hip joint in the ice pack as you can and leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes. If you need to use cold again then please leave 1 hour after taking the pack off to putting it on again.

HEAT THERAPY.

When to use heat.
Heat should be used when your hip osteoarthritis is giving a stiffness type pain having been sedentary. For example first thing in the morning if you get stiff then use heat as it will help the soft tissue to warm up and work better. (Same principle as athletes warming up). To be honest becoming a morning showerer or bather for an OA sufferer is a really good idea as it will get you going much quicker than anything else.

Please note that if you shower after an activity then you are putting heat on when it should be cold really. If you have come in from the gardening for example and need a shower then by all means have one but put an ice pack on after otherwise you will increase the inflammation and feel worse later.

What and how to use as a heat pack.
Simple answer is hot water bottles although if you want to use expensive packs you heat in the microwave feel free. Water from the hot tap is better than boiling water from the kettle (too hot!) and then wrap it in a towel before placing it around your hip joint in the same way as a cold pack. Again you need to wrap it around so don’t overfill it and you may need two of them.

How long to use a heat pack.
Same as a cold pack actually so 15 to 20 minutes but you only need leave ?an hour between sessions.

If you are out and about and need a cold pack then cold gels and creams are the next best thing and easily carried with you. Also you can use heat rubs if you prefer but personally I either don’t like the smell or I can’t bear the burning sensation as I use them! (Yup I am a complete baby when it comes to pain!).

So in summary heat and cold are a really good way of helping to control your hip osteoarthritis. They are easy to do and on the whole pretty safe with little or no side effects.

An Introduction To Network Marketing!

Marketing as a whole can be classified into two main categories – 1-Traditional Marketing and 2-Direct Marketing. The Traditional Marketing system is the one which all the businesses have been using since the beginning. Whereas the Direct marketing is a recent phenomenon developed before less than a century ago. Direct Marketing is also known as Multi-level Marketing or Network Marketing. The Direct Marketing or MLM is essentially a marketing system in which the buyer is also the franchisee at the same time. The MLM system does not use the formal systems of Traditional marketing, viz. mass advertising, wholesaler and retailer network, etc.

This system was essentially derived from the prevailing fact that whenever we buy or acquire something, our near and dear one’s also feel like doing the same by inquiring about it from us. In other words we send more buyers to the product that we acquired. Ofcourse the referrer did not benefit from extending the sales to it’s circle of influence.

So some prudent business persons naturally derived a principle from this practice. And they created a professional system of marketing based on this principle. Thus, one refers the other and the other refers another. This creates multilevels of chains of buyers and distributors known as networkers. They made the system work easily by training some persons and made the system attractive to them by distributing appropriately attractive compensation plans to the active networker. It also became easy due to internet popularity and advanced software techniques.

In this system the cost of the mass advertising and wholesaler/retailer network is completely redundant, which cost in the most of the cases around seventy to eighty percent of the sales price. Thus by saving this amount by avoiding the formal expenses of the traditional marketing, an MLM system is able to allocate thus saved funds for paying appropriate commissions to the buyer who does refer other buyer(s).

In this way every buyer who refers more buyers is able to earn appropriate amount of commissions, The MLM compensation systems are devised in such a way that the buyer has enough incentives to refer more and more buyers to the company. This way every active buyer is able to create own team of dedicated networkers. This opportunity is equally available to each buyer.

The netwroker is also known as associate or Independent Representative. The ultimate target in any marketing system is sales. In the absence of all the formal systems of traditional marketing, a Buyer (who is also a seller) in MLM system has to refer more buyers to the company in order to receive commissions and incentives from it.

Most of the MLM companies organize seminars, training sessions and pay special incentives to enhance the leadership qualities in the networker so that he/she is able to organize his/her own team on a fast track. Sometimes the networker may also be required to pay for high quality trainings and seminars.

This system has many advantages. It is assumed that every human being has some basic qualities of leadership. So even the masses who were unable to acquire formal education, could join such programs and with trainings and guidance available in abundance, can earn handsomely. This is also far more suitable to ladies who are mostly unable to join formal jobs due to family and children’s responsibilities. Being able to supplement income by part time work at home is another advantage. Due to all these advantages, this system has become an industry in itself and is the fastest growing at present.

However, due to ease with which it can be started by a netpreneur, many unscrupulous and cunning persons have caused heavy losses to the gullible and unsuspecting newbies. This has brought some bad name to the industry. So caution is required by any newbie to select an MLM program. I have some very horrifying experiences about this aspect. Lastly I have been able to find a program that has all the good aspects of the MLM. Like systematic training and guidance, high earning affiliate programs, auto set-up, etc.

Focused Internet Network Marketing Training, Goodbye Information Overload

In any business venture, knowing one’s business is said to be an important ingredient for the business to be profitable and the businessman to succeed.

The other key ingredients are the businessman’s knowledge and skills required to carry out the vital tasks involved in the business. This only shows that being equipped with the right education and appropriate training will help a businessman succeed in the business he chooses to go into.

Dilemma in Choosing

In the world of online marketers, it is Internet Network Marketing Training which they would need for them to succeed in the network marketing business and make it as profitable as possible. Thanks to the Internet and some colleges, courses about this field continue to prosper in the Internet and in many reliable institutions. This is where the problem is because with the many programs about Internet network marketing, Internet marketers are now in a dilemma in choosing which program to enroll, train in or focus more for business.

Hampers Efficiency

This is a problem that is said to be every online marketer’s nightmare. This is a daily dilemma for all online marketers. This is what is called in the Internet world as information overload.

Information overload can pose a danger to an online marketer who is in need of the correct Internet Network Marketing Training because too much information can confuse a marketer-in-training.

It becomes confusing to the person because of how majority of the training programs available in the market today forces internet marketing trainees to learn every online marketing skill at once using not one training course but a variety of these. It is for this reason that trainees experience difficulty in mastering individual skills at a slower pace or at a pace that suits their capabilities.

Another danger of information overload is how it makes online marketing professionals on a re-tooling journey surprisingly inefficient in their respective jobs instead of the opposite desired result of a re-training, that is, to become more efficient. This happens because of too much new information that professionals have to learn that are taking away their focus from their jobs.

The Great Challenge

The challenge for any new network marketer or for those who want to gain new skills is to find the best Internet Network Marketing Training out there that will not only make online marketing workers efficient but will also help them in developing them to become if not the best but excellent marketing professionals that the online marketing business can offer.

Look no farther as this program is now existent. Even if it’s a recent addition to Internet Network Marketing Training many professionals are now saying that the courses in the program are surefire solutions to information overload suffered by online marketers. These people are further saying that this is the program to use in training newly hired internet marketers. Finally, marketers can now say goodbye to information overload.

SOPHIE ALBOU, founder and creative director for Paul & Joe, is turning her appreciation of Pierre Cardin’s work into a tribute to the designer with a collaborative line for the Parisian design house: Paul & Joe for Pierre Cardin.

Launching for spring/summer 2008, the collection will comprise ten looks per season which reflect the rarity of Cardin’s vision imbued with a little Paul & Joe sass. Both design houses have committed to the partnership with a seven-year contract.

“It is a natural progression that following Sophie Albou’s homage to Pierre Cardin, an exclusive collaboration between the two houses was born,” says a representative of Paul & Joe. “For each individual piece, Albou takes time to become impregnated with their story and inspirational sources of the designer, as well as the life of the archive pieces and that of the women who once wore them.”

Paul & Joe for Pierre Cardin will be available at all Paul & Joe points of sale worldwide. (March 7 2008, AM)

Buying a used car – where to buy used cars?

Buying used cars for sale can be trickier and more time consuming than buying new cars, especially if you’re not a used car expert. The following information highlights your main options on where to buy used cars, and hopefully, you’ll emerge with your dream used car and not a nightmare on wheels.

Dealers
If you are buying a used car from a dealer this means you are given legal protection. Dealers are legally obliged to sell used cars which are of ‘satisfactory quality’, which basically means that apart from the usual wear and tear of the used car, a used vehicle must be free from any defects – except ones pointed out to you and those which should have been uncovered by an inspection (but only if one has been done) – and it must be in a certain roadworthy condition. The dealer must also have legal title to the used car they are selling. And finally the dealer must describe the car as accurately as possible, e.g. a used car cannot be advertised as having had one careful owner if it has actually had three previous owners.

When buying used cars privately, as long as the vehicle is accurately described, you have no legal comeback if there are any faults with the used car.

Reputable dealers should be members of a trade association, such as the Retail Motor Industry Federation or the Scottish Motor Trade Association, and be bound by its code of conduct.

Franchised outlets will usually have the pick of the best used cars, and offer the most comprehensive warranties available.

Manufacturers’ used car approved schemes can take even more risk out of buying a used car. Apart from good sales service and car reliability, you can expect a full car history check, and quite often a free warranty. You can also usually part exchange your old car to make life a lot easier.

Car supermarkets
It should be noted that independent car supermarkets have mushroomed in the last decade, offering huge numbers of nearly-new and low-mileage used cars on massive sites. Prices tend to be very attractive, however, there is usually less room for haggling.

Options are limited and the stock usually consists of basic models, so if you’re looking for a rare used car you’re unlikely to find it at a supermarket. They also rarely offer the after-sales support and warranty you’ll get from a dealer.

Buying privately
Buying used cars privately can usually turn out to be the cheapest option, but it really is ‘buyer beware’ with a private sale and you must really be extra careful when dealing with some sellers.

You should be aware that the seller’s only legal obligation is to describe the used car accurately and you should take this into account when purchasing used cars.
You also would need to watch out for any unscrupulous sellers who may try to pretend to be a private seller to off-load sub-standard or stolen cars.
But don’t let this put you off. If you’re sensible, and do all the right checks, a fantastic deal could be waiting for you.
